Family Friendly Normandy

Children are well catered for in Normandy there is so much to see and do, a wide range of places to visit and experience that you can be assured an exciting time for all. There are castles to discover, theme parks for excitement, Zoo's to wonder at nature, beaches for that relaxing day. You will not be disappointed with what is on offer in Normandy.

The range of activities available within just a short drive from Gite Saint Julien is huge and we have tried to cover just a few here, visit the Normandy Tourism site to start planning your trip.

Theme Parks

Within the region are a number of theme parks for those exciting days out:

Parc Ange Michel - Just a 30 minute drive away near St Hilaire du Harcouet is this popular park with rides and attractions to suit all ages.

The Enchanted Village - Again just a 40 minute drive away near Bellefontaine is this park aimed at younger children. In a wonderful natural setting the Enchante Village allows children to experience a wide range of activities.

Festyland - Located near Caen this theme park offers all the thrills and spills with a good selection of rides. 

Castles

Normandy has a wealth of history and a long association with England. There are many historic castles in the region that offer children a fascinating gateway into history. Here are just a few sites you may wish to visit but remember there are many more to visit.

Chateau Domfront - Just minutes walk from Gite Saint Julien is the ruins of the castle at Domfront which is now a park and offers a pleasant view of the area. The Gite is located right in the heart of the historic area of Domfront and as you wander around you will see many medieval buildings.

Chateau Falaise - Discover the birthplace of William the Conqueror. This unique castle offers visitors an audio guide through each part of the castle. Having suffered damage in WW2 Chateau Falaise has undergone an imaginative restoration utilising modern techniques. Throughout the summer months there are activities for children.

Fougeres - A large fortress that guarded the border of Brittany

Carrouges - Large moated house a historic monument well worth a visit.

Zoo's

The Normandy region is well served by a number of zoo's each involved in different aspects of conservation. Within a short drive here is a selection of three different attractions worth visiting.

Alligator Bay - Near Mont St Michel has the largest group of Alligators in Europe and offers a very interesting visit. The park also has collections of lizards, snakes and has a tortoise breeding programme.

Jurques Zoo - Has a large collection of animals Lions, Tigers, Apes and a host of others. The zoo is set out in Continental areas and set in the lovely Normandy countryside

Champrepus Zoo and Park - Another wonderful zoo which also includes wonderful botanical gardens set in the lovely Normandy countryside.

This is just a small taster of what is available for entertaining children in Normandy. Don't forget that within a hour you can be on golden beaches or discover the D-Day landing. The Normandy region will never disappoint.
